detour gone wrong

[[august  16th -  august 24th]]

las vegas, nevada. also known as sin city. what happens there, stays there. ;) i've always loved going to vegas. as a kid, going with the family, i found excitement in the bright lights and the crowds. and when i got married, going with my husband, i experienced vegas in such a different and fun way. but this time around, we decided to go with friends. the husband's childhood friend and his wife were in orlando visiting some family(with their three kids). their family volunteered to babysit the kiddos so we could meet up for a few days in sin city ;)

while i love traveling with just the husband, i genuinely enjoyed having the company of another couple there with us. especially because our friends were so much like us in what they liked/didn't like. it ended up working out perfectly and it was definitely a trip to remember :)

from vegas, my flight was straight to dallas to spend the weekend with my family and the husband was supposed to go back home to atlanta. but, because he missed his flight (typical of us...lol) they re-routed his flight through dallas so initially we had the same flight and from dallas he would go on to atlanta. but, due to weather, they detoured the plane to houston and we landed there. from that point, they had canceled all flights to dallas and were offering a bus that would take 6-7 hours to take us to dallas. we decided it would be better to rent a car and drive ourselves. which we did, but an hour into the drive the car broke down on the side of some highway (and that too at 1 am :/). we waited almost three hours for the cops to come escort us off the highway to the exit and for the tow truck to arrive. at that point, our family was having to drive the four hours to pick us up. the tow truck guy dropped us off at a rest area (creepy because it's 4 am now) where we waited a good half hour before they came. (thanks once again to my sister, her fiancé at the time, and my mom for coming through!!)

anyway, saad booked his flight out from dallas two days later so he got to spend some time with the family as well. it was a huge mess, but ended up working out pretty well. :)
